Abstract

Political elites vary in their areas of preeminence I) Legislative elites, understood as candidates for the legislature and II) Executive elites, associated with ministerial cabinets, advisors, and regional governors. Generally, the study of both types is carried out separately since they would have different recruitment routes. This research aims to delve deeper into the mechanisms of recruitment for both legislative and executive elites. This study will focus on identifying the decisive factors that influence the cabinets formation, their survival, and the selection of legislative candidates, combining both lines of research to generate a dialogue between both. The study will identify which institutional conditions if any impact the political outcomes of recruitment in Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Here, we try to answer the following questions: Under what conditions do institutional variables affect the recruitment processes of political elites? Different political systems produce different political elites? Are there differences in these effects between legislative and executive elites?
