Abstract

This paper explores the cultural and political solidarities between Indigenous and Afro-descent communities, focusing on the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico, and Quilombola communities in Brazil. Through an analysis of art, feminism, and acts of resistance, the paper highlights how these groups engage in intercultural solidarity to challenge colonial and capitalist structures. Drawing parallels between cultural exchange as a basis of shared solidarity, as well as the feminist leadership within both movements, this paper explores the transformative potential of shared struggles. By examining historical and contemporary examples, I argue that alliances between Indigenous and Black communities are essential for liberation and resistance against the continuing harms of colonialism and capitalism.
