This paper investigates anti-sex discourse within the far right in Western societies, concentrating on hostility toward pornography and concerns about young men’s masturbatory practices. Examining radical right populists (including Christian nationalists), identitarians, and far-right extremists, I analyze how their preoccupation with young men’s pornography consumption reflects broader anxieties about eroding white male supremacy. Though drawing predominantly on existing scholarship, I complement with select empirical examples, to address a gap in research on far-right sexual politics.
I demonstrate how these movements link young white men’s masturbation to national decay, white racial anxiety, and reproductive futurism. Different far-right factions frame this concern distinctly: extremist groups like the KKK cast pornography as a Jewish plot to deplete white men’s masculine vitality. Violent groups such as the Proud Boys and Active Clubs promote abstinence as a method for building combat-ready, virile masculinity. Christian nationalists disguise anti-pornography positions within child protection discourse while simultaneously targeting trans youth and drag performers (visible in Project 2025). Meanwhile, radical right populists and identitarians (including influencer the Golden One) connect masturbation to white male emasculation, advocating abstinence as a route to sovereign masculinity.
I argue that masturbation abstinence operates as a "remasculinization" strategy of white masculinity at both individual and collective levels. This lens illuminates how pornography abstention serves as a tool for young men attempting to conform to heterosexual masculinity standards while serving far-right political agendas aimed at restoring white male supremacy. Crucially, these calls for remasculinization paradoxically reveal white masculinity’s inherent failure: positioning masculinity as both essential and perpetually lost, the far right’s “nofap” movement becomes a perfect metaphor for heteromasculinity’s contradictions—a performance requiring constant vigilance against the very pleasures it claims to enable.
