Abstract

The focus in Social Reproduction Theory (SRT) has lately been on value producing or non-value producing modes of SR. We want to ask what perspectives from different regions of the world can contribute to pluralizing SR approaches not only in this regard, but also if our concepts and theories of SR need pluralizing to understand global developments. We propose that a more encompassing understanding of capitalism will emerge from such pluralizing which can contribute to the analysis of different locational settings, for example differences between democratic or authoritarian statehood, colonialized lands or settler colonialism. But also, how resistance is possible through and within social reproduction. By working across disciplinary boundaries, we want to draw on existing debates on social reproduction, yet pluralizing their theoretical premises, disciplinary boundaries and empirical reach, to build a global progressive agenda able to speak to the challenges that processes of life-making are facing worldwide. This global reframing through pluralizing SRA, we hope, will enable us to also re-imagine policy initiatives locationally, and at a multi-scalar level.
