Abstract

Gergana Noutcheva will take a comparative and forward-looking angle, using the book’s blueprint on informal and minilateral cooperation to discuss its applicability beyond the EU. Her contribution will compare EU practices with informal “minilateral” formats in other regions, asking under what conditions informality stabilizes rather than fragments multilateral orders. In conversation with the book author and the other members of the roundtable, she will also discuss a future research agenda on informal diplomacy in international organizations facing pressures from multipolar competition and contested multilateralism.
