Abstract

Drawing on original research conducted by the authors, this chapter traces the development of the UK system for managing its interaction with the EU through from the widely admired centralised system that defined its membership years through post-referendum phases under May, Johnson, Truss, and Sunak to Starmer. It considers the shifts in strategy, the system and its operation, and highlights the role of domestic factors in bringing about change.
