Abstract

Italy’s coordination of EU policies has changed significantly since the 2001 edition of the homonymous edited volume by Kassim et al. (2001). Two sets of change took place since then, jointly making European affairs and EU policymaking play an increasingly central role in Italian politics and acquire a more ‘domestic policy’ character while increasingly shedding their ‘foreign policy’ connotation. This paper examines the evolution of national EU policy making in Italy in the wake of the reforms introduced by Lisbon and in response to crises since 2008, as well as changes in domestic politics
