Abstract

The paper uses the Bulgarian Eurosceptic party Vazrazhdane as a case study to analyse how Eurosceptic discourse surrounding Bulgaria's eurozone accession spreads and intensifies across digital media platforms. It examines the underlying mechanisms by which anti-European sentiments are disseminated, sustained, and amplified through social media, online forums, and digital communication. The study focuses on the narratives, participants, and communication strategies deployed by political leaders and influential online figures, including the leader of Vazrazhdane and other opinion makers. By analysing digital conversations, the research clarifies the complex ways online ecosystems shape public opinion and attitudes toward Bulgaria's eurozone integration. The results demonstrate the substantial influence of digital media in advancing and spreading Eurosceptic attitudes, highlighting how political actors actively leverage these platforms to shape and mobilise public discourse. This work, therefore, deepens our understanding of how digital communication and Eurosceptic viewpoints interact, shedding light on the strategic use of online platforms in contemporary debates about European integration.
