Abstract

This paper develops a comparative analysis of the Theatre of the Oppressed as a democratic innovation in contested and constrained contexts. Drawing on deliberative democracy theory and comparative fieldwork conducted in France and Italy, it examines how forum theatre and embodied, non-verbal practices expand participatory and deliberative possibilities beyond institutional settings. The paper argues that these creative practices contribute to strengthening democratic resilience through inclusive and experimental forms of participation.
