Democratic Governance and Legislative Politics

The polycrisis that has affected the EU for over a decade now has put constitutional democracy and law-making under increasing pressure. To investigate the related developments and their consequences, this section invites submissions on topics ranging from the various instances of democracy – representative, participatory and direct – to legislative processes and bodies, the responsiveness of legislative institutions and legislators, issues of delegation of powers, democratic scrutiny, oversight, and accountability mechanisms in the EU multilevel setting. We welcome Panels and Papers from different theoretical and methodological approaches that deal with these themes. The analysis can be focused on the organizational/institutional dimension of democratic governance and legislative politics, the structure and functioning of elections, political parties, groups, other parliamentary bodies, and civil society, and/or on the micro-level, looking at the behaviour of citizens, legislators, policy-makers in general, lobbyists, etc. Expected contributions can consider a particular level of government– supranational, domestic or sub-national – or adopt a multilevel perspective.
