Democratic societies have developed a wide range of responses to extremism, radicalisation, political violence, and anti-democratic mobilisation, ranging from legislative counter-measures and judicial interventions to civil society mobilisation, grassroots activism, and educational initiatives. This section examines how democracies, institutions, and communities respond to radical and extremist forces, with attention to the effectiveness, limitations, and unintended consequences of different response strategies. Contributions on counter-extremism policy, deradicalisation programmes, and the role of international organisations are particularly welcome.
