Abstract

This section will explore gendered analyses of governance and civil society, at the international, transnational, national and local levels. It aims to present cutting edge research from international relations, political science and political theory that employ a gendered perspective to analyse contemporary political developments. The section will be methodologically eclectic and exploratory. It welcomes papers that address issues of gender and politics broadly conceived. Of particular concern is the changing form of contemporary governance, and its impact on gendered relations. We already have panels arranged on the following ten topics: 1) International Perspectives on Gender, War and Peace-building; 2) Gender, Civil Society and the State in European social dialogue; 3) Gender and Governance: democratization and new forms of participation; 4) Feminist State Theory; 5) Identities and Group Representation: Comparing Race, Ethnicity, and Gender ; 6) Quotas and Electoral Systems; 7) Reporting gender/politics in the 2004 European Elections; 8) Equality and Diversity: European Perspectives; 9) Deconstructing Nordic discourses on gender equality; 10) Now we have all that research: what about feminist methodology? Panel proposals on additional themes can be accommodated and should be sent to Judith Squires.
