Abstract

WE WELCOME ALL PANEL AND PAPER PROPOSALS ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS. BELOW ARE SOME SPECIFIC IDEAS FROM THE SECTION CHAIRS. The section on environmental politics encourages submissions that investigate the role of environmental issues in politics at the national, regional or global level. The scope is therefore everything from case studies of environmental politics in a single country all the way up to global political debate regarding climate change and climate policy. Similarly one can differentiate the roles of environmental issues in politics. These can be ideational in the form of developments in environmental/ecological social theory and philosophy. They can be mobilizational in the form of social movement or political parties. Or they can be policy-oriented in terms of domestic regulatory politics or finding international agreement on environmental protection. Particularly welcome are papers fitting into panels on: (1) comparative international perspectives on environmentalism: North vs South; (2) environmental movements and green parties in a national or comparative perspective; (3) international politics surrounding the challenges of climate change; (4) the convergence of environmentalism with overall governance theories.
