Welcome & General Information About YEN
• The Steering Committee has now four members, with Syeda Fuzna Haidar (University of Karachi) joined it in July 2025.
• The number of our Standing Group has been increasing, reaching almost 200 in September 2025, when the last periodical membership renewal took place. However, with this renewal the number went down, a situation almost all the ECPR Standing Groups (SGs) and Research Networks (RNs) experience during the renewal periods. Thus, we encourage our members to keep attentive to such periodical processes and also to spread the word next to their colleagues and friends who might have an interest in (re)joining. Currently, our SG has 105 members.
Update on YEN Past Activities
• YEN Online Seminar Series
Among the main activities conducted in the past year was the continuation of our Webinar Series. Two additional webinars were organised. The first was held in November 2024, entitled “Coordinative Europeanisation and Russia’s war of aggression: how crises shape Europeanisation dynamics in EU foreign policy”, with Ana E. Juncos (University of Bristol), Marianna Lovato (Jagiellonian University), Karolina Pomorska (Leiden University) and Gergana Noutcheva (Maastricht University). The second webinar took place in April 2025, entitled “What does research on Europeanisation tell us about the EU policy, politics and polity?”, with Claudio Radaelli (European University Institute & University College London), Marina Cino Pagliarello (European University Institute) and Stella Ladi (Queen Mary University of London). More information about these events can be found on our SG website. Whereas the process for the upcoming webinars is going on (see Future Activities).
• Other Activities
The Steering Committee has continued to enhance the Group’s visibility, notably through the use of YEN website and personal social media and e-mail lists of the Committee members. While the Committee also encourages the SG members to contribute to its promotion, namely by advertising YEN events through their own networks and platforms. The Steering Committee is always open to suggestions from our members regarding possible events aiming at further promotion of YEN. The Committee has also responsibility for the tasks set by the ECPR itself, e.g., writing annual reports on YEN, with which the ECPR aims to assess the Group’s performance.
Update on YEN Future Activities
• YEN Webinar Series Will Continue
The Steering Committee has already launched a Call for Proposals for our upcoming online seminar series (until 31 October 2025). The received and expected submissions will be used to develop the 2026 Webinar Series Programme. And, with such a CfP we aim to encourage scholars at all career stages, especially early career ones, for promoting their researches on Europeanization. In the past, we organized our webinars with senior and established scholars who presented their researches on topical and cutting-edge issues in the domain of Europeanization. And the Committee members always remain open to further suggestions of relevant topics.
•ECPR General Conference 2026
The YEN Steering Committee intents to join the ECPR General Conference 2026, which will be held in September, in Krakow, hosted by Jagiellonian University. The Committee will propose a Section on Europeanization in the coming days. Once the ECPR Academic Convenors approve it, then the Committee will ask our SG members for their submissions of panel and paper proposals. This will be a great opportunity indeed, not only for the visibility of our SG but also for the participants, for increasing their international networks beside their exchange of research information and possible publication of their papers.
• YEN on Social Media
The Steering Committee envisages a social media account for our SG, e.g., on LinkedIn. We think that a social media account will contribute to YEN works in advertising its events and sharing its news while strengthening networks among our SG members and increasing dissemination of their works.
ECPR opportunities
• Business Meetings are also a place where Steering Committees inform the participants about the ECPR opportunities, which benefit the SGs and RNs thus their members. Accordingly, we mentioned what the ECPR offers our SG thus our members.
• First of all, the ECPR organizes annual events like Joint Sessions of Workshop, General Conference (GC) and Methods School. The Workshop and GC are a great opportunity for the senior and junior scholars to strengthen their networks, to produce collaborative works and to publish their papers. While, targeting early career scholars and graduate students, the ECPR Methods School is where they are taught research methods be qualitative, quantitative and mixed, beside granting students a chance of collecting ECTS credits for the courses they attended.
• The ECPR also provides funding for those events, e.g., it covers registration fees and costs of travel and accommodation of the participants, namely PhD students and early career scholars. The ECPR has also financial support for its SGs and RNs to hold their own events.
• Third, the ECPR has technical support for the events organized by its SGs and RNs, e.g., online seminars, summer schools, workshops and larger conferences. For instance, for webinars, the ECPR helps prepare and publish the digital flyer, advise for technical issues whatever raised, advertise the event through the ECPR bulletins for instances, host the meeting through providing a zoom link for instance, and if requested, make the event public through other channels like YouTube. Besides, the ECPR technical support also includes a webpage for its SGs and RNs on the ECPR website, management of membership platform, an opportunity to communicate with the ECPR Committee and staff through e-mails or meet them in person
• The ECPR also supports prizes awarded by its SGs and RNs, e.g., Best Paper Prize and Rudolf Wildenmann Prize. The former is a prize given to the best paper presented at the ECPR General Conference and the latter is a prize awarded to the best paper presented at the ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshop. Thus, each SG/RN has the right to nominate the best papers presented at their Sections/Workshops at the ECPR GC and Workshop.
• Finally, the ECPR provides publishing opportunities with its Open Access Journals like PRX and EPSR and with its blogs like the Loop. Thus, our members can submit their works to these journals and blogs at any time. And these journals are open to special issues from the ECPR SGs and RNs while the blogs grant a special page to them beside publishing individual submissions sent by their members.
Questions&Answers and Open Discussion
• The Steering Committee answered the questions from the audience.
• The Committee opened a discussion on the possible events that can be arranged by the SG members themselves, on a possible joint publication on Europeanization, on their greater involvement in the activities of YEN, and on their support for the visibility of our SG, e.g., through the use of their personal social media accounts or e-mailing lists, or for increasing the number of our SG members, e.g., directly contacting with their colleagues or friends interested in Europeanization as a research area. In all points, the Committee is open to any support and suggestions from our members.
