Call for Papers: 2nd International Conference on Political Sociology Rome, 17-19 September 2026

From the Standing Group on Political Sociology

The Political Sociology Section of the Italian Sociological Association (AIS), in collaboration with the ECPR Standing Group on Political Sociology, ESA RN32, ISA RC18, ISA RC26, FES CI08, DGS Section Politische Soziologie, and AFS RT34, announces the 2nd International Conference on Political Sociology, to be held at Sapienza University of Rome, 17–19 September 2026.

The conference theme, “Resentment, Fear, and Identity in Contemporary Society”, focuses on the role of political emotions - such as resentment, fear, anxiety, and hope - in shaping contemporary democracies. It invites contributions that explore how these emotional dynamics intersect with processes of social transformation, identity formation, and symbolic conflict, as well as with ongoing changes in political representation and participation.

The conference is organised around thematic areas rather than pre-constituted panels.
