The Health Policy, Politics and Governance (Health-PPG) Research Network brings together scholars with research interests in the policy, politics and governance of health and healthcare in Europe and beyond. It welcomes scholars from all political science sub-disciplines, including comparative politics, political sociology, public policy and administration studies, political economy, international relations, foreign policy analysis, political psychology and political theory. The network is open to all methodological approaches.
The Health-PPG Network aims at providing political scientists working on any topic related to health and healthcare with a disciplinary space for focused discussions and exchange of ideas. It has three main objectives:
1. To provide a central communication channel for the Health-PPG research community
2. To establish a permanent/recurring space for sharing work and networking between members
3. To advance research in the field of health and healthcare political science.
In order to support these objectives, the Health-PPG research network plans to undertake/engage in a number of activities.
With the aim of providing a central communication channel for the Health-PPG research community, we host and update this webpage on the ECPR site, host accounts on various social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, YouTube [coming soon]), and manage a central mailing list [coming soon]. We use these platforms to share and promote the work of Network members and scholars working in the field, as well as to disseminate new publications, calls for papers, job announcements, calls for research funding, and other information of relevance to Health-PPG.
In order to establish a permanent/recurring space for the sharing of work, we lead the organisation of a Health-PPG section (series of panels), as well as a Research network meeting and social event, at the annual ECPR general conference. We also encourage and promote other, stand-alone (ECPR) sessions and workshops, both in-person and online. In future years, we plan to develop a PhD workshop/summer school to support early-career researchers entering the field.
Finally, with the aim of advancing research in the field, we seek to encourage and promote the development of joint publication projects (e.g. special issues, edited volumes), and grant applications linked to the Network. Here our aim is to lend weight to applications relevant to the Health-PPG field by offering association with the Network's events and dissemination channels. In subsequent years, we plan to develop (1) a blog and/or podcast to showcase the work of Network members and scholars working in the wider field of health and healthcare politics, and (2) a 'best early-career paper' prize within the framework of the ECPR general conference.
