Loss of Prof. Peter Mair

The ECPR is very sad to announce the death of Prof. Peter Mair while on holiday in August in his home town of Sligo, Ireland. Peter Mair was Professor at the European University Institute, Florence (and previously Professor at the universities of Leiden and Manchester) and an unfailing long-term colleague, friend and supporter of the ECPR and its activities. To name only some recent examples of this support, Peter worked tirelessly in the Stein Rokkan Prize Committee, he played the lead role in organizing the re-launch of the ECPR’s Research Sessions at the EUI, and he provided advice and guidance on the ECPR’s political and democratic process. Peter will be sadly missed by the ECPR which will, at a future event, find a suitable means of honouring his outstanding contribution to the European Political Science community. Our thoughts are with his wife, Karin, and family at this most difficult of times. The Chair of the ECPR will attend the funeral which will take place in Ireland on Friday 19 August.
