Call for proposals: ECR Pre-Workshops in conjunction with the SGEU 2026 Biennial Conference in Catania, 1-3 July 2026
The ECPR Standing Group on the European Union (SGEU) is offering funding for one or more pre-conference workshops dedicated to Early Career Researchers to be organised on June 30 2026, the day prior to the SGEU biennial conference. The format is geared specifically towards ECRs (graduate students, PhD candidates, post-doc researchers, early stage assistant professors) seeking to collaborate with one another or to receive input from more senior scholars around a specific research- or career-related theme. Each workshop may involve up to 15 participants. SGEU will cover costs related to travel to/from Catania as well as the additional night of accommodation for the participants.
Funding for each workshop will normally be limited to a maximum of €5.000. A larger sum would require specific justification. Funding will only cover the costs of ECRs attending the workshop.
Possible formats may concern, but are not limited to:
Thematic exchanges around a specific research topic, whereby junior scholars receive detailed input on their draft papers from senior colleagues
Workshops focused on research methodology and design in the context of EU studies
Research workshops bringing authors together for planned collaborative publications
Exchange of information and training on career-related issues such as applications for postdoctoral or tenure-track positions, the process of academic publishing or guidance on the writing of grant proposals
To apply for funding, please prepare a proposal including:an outline of the nature and objectives of your planned event
the envisaged participants (names or career stage, if already pre-selected) or mechanism for selection
any senior scholars that you have invited or plan to invite as lecturers, discussants or moderators of the workshop, and
a detailed budget.
Please submit your proposal as a single pdf file to sgeu.ecpr@gmail.com by 9 January 2026. The SGEU Steering Committee will evaluate the proposals received and inform applicants of the decision by end of January 2026.
