About

I, Özlem Terzi, PhD, am a Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam since 2018. I am also the Politics-track coordinator of our Bachelor's programme on Philosophy, Politics, Economics (PPE). Before joining the VU, I was a visiting scholar at College of Europe, Bruges, Department of EU Diplomacy and International Relations in 2016-2017, and associate professor of International Relations at Istanbul University until 2018. My earlier research has focused EU-Turkey relations, EU enlargement policy and Turkish foreign policy. Among others, I am the author of the Influence of the European Union on Turkish Foreign Policy (2010) Ashgate. I have recently co-edited (with Seda Gurkan [ULB] and Trineke Palm [Netherlands Defence Academy]) the Special Issue of the journal Global Affairs, 2021, vol. 7, no.2 on Emotions in EUropean Foreign Policy. My research interests include EU Foreign Policy, especially EU diplomacy in global governance, EU in Arctic governance, EU enlargement policy, and EU-Turkey relations. My current research focuses on the EU's involvement in the governance of the Arctic region with a particular emphasis on the protection of indigenous peoples' rights alongside environmental protection and resource management in the Arctic. I work with interpretive methods, Discourse Historical Approach of CDA and am interested in comparative methods based research, especially recently through Comparative Historical Analysis due to the necessity of my current research to take in the different historical experiences of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic.
