I was born in Mostar, today's Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the 90s war I was forced to leave the country and migrated with my family in Italy, where I completed my studies. My personal history inspired my academic career, that was oriented towards the understanding of processes of nation-building, ethno-nationalism and identity formation in the post-Yugoslav space, with a focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina. My experience as an activist in Italy and my interest on the potentials of grass-root engagement in the Western Balkan societies, fostered my choice to candidate for a PhD at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology of the Scuola Normale Superiore, with a project on social movements in ethnically divided societies. Currently at my second year of research, I am focusing on environmental movements in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, and on their capacity of building new collective identities that cross-cut the ethnic cleavages.
