Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Stellenbosch, holding a Research Chair in Gender Politics, specializing in women and citizenship, women's representation, national gender machineries, women's movements and South African politics. Editor of (Un)Thinking Citizenship: Feminist Debates in Contemporary South Africa. Ashgate/Juta 2005., Co-editor with Daiva Stasiulis of "Gender and Multiculturalism: North/South Perspectives" Routledge, 2014. She is the co-author with James Gibson on "Overcoming Intolerance in South Africa - Experiments in Democratic Persuasion". Cambridge. 2003, that received the Alexander George Award for best book in Political Psychology in 2003. Her latest co-edited book with Olivia Ezeobi "COVID Diaries - Women's Experience of the Pandemic has just appeared with Imbali Press. She was a commissioner for the South African Commission for Gender Equality from 2012-2014.
