Hello there. I'm a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer ("wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin") at the University of Siegen in Germany. My research is based in political theory, more specifically in international political theory and democratic theory, but usually overlaps, in one way or another, with other areas of political science. Thus, in my PhD-thesis, I discussed possibilities and challenges of multiple democratic citizenships in as well as beyond the state. At present, I'm researching what the concept of independence (still) means under contemporary conditions and whether it is a tenable institutional guiding-principle for post-Westphalian times. Thus, I'm interested, on the one hand, in independence movements and debates about independence and secession, particularly in the European context. On the other hand, I'm working on theoretical debates on sovereignty, self-determination and freedom as all three, I argue, inform the notion of independence and provide reasons for pursuing it.
