Azul A. Aguiar-Aguilar is Professor of political science at the Department of Law and Sociopolitical Studies at the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO) in Mexico. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florence. She teaches courses of political science, judicial reform, theories of democracy and comparative methodology in undergraduate and graduate programs at ITESO and University of Guadalajara. She has been visiting professor at University of Pisa (Mater on Analysis, Prevention and Fight against Organized Crime and Corruption) in 2014 and 2018. She was visiting post-doctoral researcher at the GIGA Institute, ILAS, in Hamburg. Her research interests include comparative judicial politics and democratization processes. She is editor of the volume Jueces, Democracia y derechos. Una introducción a la política judicial. México: Fontamara-IIJ-UNAM-TEPJF, several articles in peer review journals and book chapters on studies of justice-sector institutions, rule of law and democracy. She was elected member of the Executive Committee of the International Political Science Association (2021-2023). She has been distinguished as member of the National Researchers System (SNI) in Mexico.
