I teach legal philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Humanities. I coordinate the Master Philosophy of Law and Governance. My primary research field is theory of European Union law. I have published about the extension of John Rawls's theory of justice as fairness to the European Union. Currently, I am working on a Kantian theory of the EU. At the basis of that theory lies the view that EU internal market law can best be seen as an instance of positive cosmopolitan law in Kant's sense of "Weltbürgerrecht".
