About

I am a post-doctoral researcher on the REDRESS project, which focuses on hybrid democratic innovations (combinations of voting-based and deliberation-based citizen participation). More information on www.redressproject.nl. I am based at the university of Tilburg in the Netherlands, where I also obtained my PhD. My research interests entail referendum design, democratic innovation, citizen participation and electoral procedures. I specialise in design aspects of multi-option referendums (initiation, ballot option formulation, preference expression and aggregation). My main focus is on empirical and comparative research, predominantly applying thematic analysis, qualitative/comparative case studies and typologising. For qualitative data analysis I like to work with ATLAS.ti. I have some experience conducting focus groups, survey studies and interviewing. I enjoy being societally involved as a referendum advisor for several Dutch municipalities/provinces and as an international electoral observer. Over the past ten years I have also worked for the Dutch electoral council and in the department for out-of-country voting, and I have provided trainings on electoral procedures. I happily engage with fellow academics and practitioners to share experiences. Feel free to contact me! My personal interests include beer tasting, mountain biking and squash, and I'm a real foodie.
