About

Dimitri Courant is PhD candidate in political science at the University of Lausanne and University Paris 8. His research focuses on deliberation, representation, democracy and sortition. His qualitative fieldwork inquiry compares several case-studies: the Irish Citizens’ Assemblies (Ireland); the Citizens’ Convention for Climate, the National Great Debate, the Citizens’ group of the CESE, the High Council of the Military Function, (France); the PubliForums and the CIR Demoscan project (Switzerland). His recent publications include: “Citizens' Assemblies for Referendums and Constitutional Reforms: Is There an ‘Irish Model’ for Deliberative Democracy?” (2021), “Sortition and Democratic Principles. A Comparative Analysis” (2019), “From kleroterion to cryptology: The act of sortition in the 21st century, instruments and practices” (2020), and “Des mini-publics délibératifs pour sauver le climat ? Analyses empiriques de l’Assemblée citoyenne irlandaise et de la Convention citoyenne française” (2020).
