I work on the role of new technologies in global environmental politics. I am interested in institutional solutions for leveraging technology for environmental sustainability while simultaneously mitigating its environmental and socio-political risks. My work mostly draws on (historical) institutionalism and uses a mixture of qualitative methods, social network analysis and text mining. I am currently a chief researcher in the Research Group Civil Society and Sustainability at Kaunas University of Technology, and a professor at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University. My current work focuses on the role of outer space for global sustainability politics, as well as the (ambiguous) implications of novel biotechnologies for the protection of nature and biodiversity. I am the author of Transformative Novel Technologies and Global Environmental Governance (Cambridge 2023) as well as The Global Governance of Genetic Resources (Routledge 2017).
