I have a background as a sociologist and work as a professor in social work, Lund University Sweden. My research interests cover areas like comparative welfare states, social policies and social citizenship. In recent years I have however been more dircetly engaged into studies of civil society, the mobilizing and organizing efforts of citizens in movements, networks and associations. This has led to leading a series of research projects addressing issues of civil society contractualisation and how that effects civil society indendency and actors potential to act as democratic watch-dogs against the state. I have also been leading research projects addressing the role of the EU and Europeanization of national civil societies, capturing the EU as an opportunity structure for domestci civil society organizations. More recently I have also enrolled in leading projects on the competition and conflicts between welfare rights and social justice oriented movements and organizations vs. climate justice and environmental protection movements and organizations. Currently I lead a 6 year research program on 'Civil Society Elites? Comparing elite composition, reproduction, integration and contestation in European civil societies' funded by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (www.civilsocietyelites.lu.se). The program currently engages up to 15 senior and junior scholars from sociology, political science and social work doing a series of studies (surveys, network studies, databases) of elites in four European countries (Italy, Poland, England and Sweden) as well as at EU level. Aside from that I have recently also been engaged in studies of climate demonstrations, tied to the Fridays for Futures marches. Some of my posts include the board of the ESA Research Network on Political Sociology and I act as an editor for a series on Third Sector and Civil Society Research with Palgrave. This includes that my research interests regards elite studies, civil society, social movement, interest group, political sociology, EU, comparative social policy.
