I am Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law, University of Aberdeen. Political theory is my main area of interest, with a focus on council democracy, contractarianism (the social contract), multiculturalism, political community, sovereignty, citizenship, nationalism, and constitution-making. I am currently working on the varieties of council and assembly democracy in the cases of the Zapatista Autonomous Municipalities in Chiapas and the Autonomous Municipality of Cherán in Michoacán, Mexico; and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (Rojava).
