My doctoral research aims to understand how universities of applied sciences use the interaction with the professional field to validate and update the study programs. So far, I have published an article which compared accreditation reports of 53 programs to illustrate coupling of programs with the professional field at strategic and operational levels in universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. The results of the study showed significant decoupling between the reporting on the interaction at the operational level which implies that more in depth studies should be undertaken to understand the level of engagement of the professional field and its impact on study programs at these institutions. These results have led me to design a case study which delves deeper into two universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands to analyse and address the interaction with the professional field and understand their involvement in the undergraduate programs. The analysis is based on policy documents, minutes and interviews.
