About

I'm a fourth-year PhD Candidate in International Relations at American University School of International Service in Washington, D.C., with a joint concentration in Comparative Politics at the School of Public Affairs. I also have an M.A. in Political Science from Villanova University. My research interests include symbols, state branding, political sociology, political psychology, and political behavior, with a regional focus on Europe, North America, and the Middle East. My dissertation examines how symbols shape political outcomes - and in particular, how and when actors strategically mobilize symbols to establish norms, drive political support, and influence perceptions of legitimacy, power, and threat. In-progress research projects include how cultural businesses impact voter behavior, how civil society groups use cultural initiatives to drive nation-building in aspiring states, and how states strategically implement tourism campaigns to respond to terror, crisis, and political violence. I use mixed methods and create original databases from websites and social media. In addition to ECPR, I am an active member of APSA, MPSA, and ISA. Starting in January 2021, I will be conducting dissertation fieldwork in France as a Fulbright research grantee.
