Lydia is a former DFG PhD Fellow at the University of Potsdam, Germany where she wrote her dissertation as part of a Training and Research Group on ‘Wicked Problems, Contested Administrations’ (WIPCAD). She is particular interested is the EU’s role in promoting human rights for LGBTI persons in Sub-Sahara Africa. Before returning to academia, she spent five years in London working for Europe’s largest human rights NGO for equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. She holds an M.A. in Human Rights and Democratisation (European Inter-University Centre, Italy and University of Utrecht, The Netherlands) and in Political Science, Comparative Literature and Art and Media Science (University of Konstanz, Germany and York University, Canada). She currently holds the role of Deputy Head of the LGBTI Unit at the Berlin Senate.
