About

I have held since 1995 the Sir Francis Hill Chair of European Politics at the University of Nottingham, UK. My research focuses on political corruption, institutional design and state capacity. I am author, co-author or editor of nineteen books and over eighty journal articles and book chapters. I currently lead a major FDCO-funded Governance and Integrity Anti-Corruption Evidence (GI-ACE) research programme, designed to identify new initiatives that can help developing countries tackle the scourge of corruption and the negative impact it has on millions of people's lives. I served as the European Commission UK expert on corruption (2012-16) and have also advised the UK Joint Anti-Corruption Unit (JACU). I am Lead Editor of CurbingCorruption.com, a resource that supports sector-based practical anti-corruption interventions and I serve on the Advisory Board of the Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network (ICRN). I am a Trustee of TI-UK, where I chair the Research Committee. I am an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, and Fellow of Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.
