About

Sara is a Professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, on subjects ranging from Public Policies and Governance to Environment and Sustainability. For more than 20 years she has been collaborating in sustainability projects with public entities, NGOs and private companies, participating in many national and international scientific projects, and authoring several international publications in books and scientific journals. Sara was the scientific coordinator of the project Ecological Footprint of Portuguese Municipalities from 2018 to 2021, developed by a strategic partnership among the Global Footprint Network, the Portuguese ENGO ZERO – Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável and the University of Aveiro. In 2022 she was awarded the prize UA Cooperation 2021 for the strong impact in cooperation with society for environmental sustainability. Her academic career has been focusing on public policies and indicators for environmental sustainability, green transition, territorial innovation, and local governance for sustainable development. Sara holds a PhD in Applied Environmental Sciences, an MSc in Development and Planning (Environment and Sustainable Development) from the University College London and a BSc in Economics from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.
