About

Senior Lecturer in Media Psychology at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester. I am interested in understanding the relationship between media, psychology, communication and political action. In particular, I am interested in understanding role media play in shaping debates about social issues. This area of interest is well summarised in the book The Psychology of Journalism (2021), co-edited with Professor Peter Bull. This book was the culmination of fifteen years of work in international, multidisciplinary teams of research examining how media in general and journalism in particular contribute to the functioning of democratic societies. I also have a keen interest in applying psychology to understanding human reactions to climate change. Hence, I have been exploring political activism, media coverage of climate change and how people articulate their beliefs and react to news concerning climate change in online comments.
