About

PhD in International Relations, Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Catania, and Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair EUMedEA. Teaches Mediterranean Politics, Politics and Institutions in the Mediterranean, Institutions of Global Trade at the University of Catania. Visiting professor at LUISS-Guido Carli, Rome, since 2007-2008, where she teaches Migration Politics in the Mediterranean. Visiting at IBEI, Barcelona, in 2019 and at GRITIM, University Pompeu Fabra, in 2022. Published in various peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Third World Quarterly, International Politics, Geopolitics, The International Spectator, Contemporary Italian Politics, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Italian Political Science Journal). Co-edited the Special Issue for International Politics ‘Shifting Borders of European (In)Securities: Human Security, Border (In)Security and Mobility in Security’ (2022). Authored monographic books (Giuffré, EGEA, CASS) and edited books (Palgrave, Rubbettino, Frank Cass). Contributed with book chapters to international edited volumes such as the Handbook on Mediterranean Politics and the Handbook on Migration Studies. Main research interests are humanitarian practices, migration politics in the Mediterranean, EU relations with the Southern neighbourhood, EU and democracy promotion in the MENA area. Researcher in the PROTECT and TRANSCRISIS H2020 research projects, in the MORDOR Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership on higher education, and member of the Quality Board of the EUNICE Education Alliance, all programs are funded by the European Commission. In the last 10 years she has served for SISP, ECPR-SGIR, ECPR-SGEU and EISA steering committees. She is one of the EISA founding members. She has recently been elected as a member of the IPSA Research Committee on the European unification.
