About

Dr. Stylianos Ioannis Tzagkarakis is Teaching Fellow on Comparative Public Policy and Postdoctoral Researcher (with scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation-IKY) at the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete. He is Field Manager of the Centre for Human Rights (KEADIK) of the University of Crete, Deputy Director of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Association of Political Scientists (HAPSc) and Member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Political Culture Research Network. He has graduated from the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete and has finished his Masters in “Political Analysis and Political Theory” in the same Department, with specialization in “Public and European Policies”. His PhD is entitled “Crisis and Welfare State in Greece 2009-2015: A critical analysis”. His research interests and his fields of expertise are: social integration of refugees and immigrants, social vulnerability, immigrants’ social welfare, social policies, social exclusion, welfare state policies, public policies. He has also participated in several research projects as key researcher. His latest research focuses on social integration of refugees in Greece, based on needs assessment of their social and human capital. Namely, he was key researcher in the research project (paid fellowship) of the Centre for Human Rights (KEADIK) of the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete, entitled: “Identification and categorization of refugees’ integration prospects in the Greek productive system. Case study in the regions of Crete and Mytilene (MIS 5006494)” (Project duration: 19/06/2018-19/09/2019), which was funded by the European Social Fund and by Greek national funds, under the framework “Support to the young researchers” of the “Development of Human Capital, Education and Life Long Learning” (Scientific Responsible: Professor Dimitrios Kotroyannos). He also has 35 Scientific Publications (in English and Greek) in Scientific Journals, Conference Proceedings and Edited Volumes (25 out of them in English), focusing on the abovementioned research fields. His recent publication which is based on the outcomes of the research on refugees’ social integration prospects in Greece, is the following: Kotroyannos, D., Tzagkarakis, S.
