About

My PhD research (second year) at King's College London focuses on self-identification of French nationals of Algerian origin. I have already presented at three King's College conferences and have completed a first research trip to gather primary material for my thesis: oral histories and archival research. I have a Master of Arts degree in French Surrealist Literature and a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status. This research degree has been a life-long ambition after fourteen years in secondary education (teaching French) and eleven years as an international journalist with the BBC. In the meantime I've also raised two sons. My background is quintessentially European. Born in Bulgaria, I speak native French and Bulgarian languages, added to which is my near-native English (studied since the age of six). My career in journalism was launched almost at the fall of the Berlin Wall. I participated in the creation of one of the first commercial radio stations in Bulgaria on the waves of Voice of America. Headhunted by the BBC, I arrived in London in 1994 where I live and work to this day.
