About

Thomas Hoppe is Associate Professor within the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at Delft University of Technology. His research line is about the governance of energy transition in cities and regions, focusing on low-carbon cities, policy and social innovation. This includes community energy. Dr. Hoppe has been involved in multiple European Union and national funded research projects (e.g.., Horizon 2020, Interreg, NWO). He is chairman of the Platform of Social Innovation in the Energy Transition, and is on the Editorial Board of Energy, Sustainability and Society (ISSN: 2192-0567). In 2009 Thomas finished his dissertation on CO2-reduction in the existing housing sector, a policy implementation study into goal setting and goal achievement, and the gap between the two. In his dissertation local housing renovation projects were analyzed using a comparative case, mixed methods research design. In 2011 Thomas was awarded the ‘G.A. van Poelje Jaarprijs‘ (annual award for best dissertation in the in the field of Public Administration in the Netherlands and Flanders). Thomas has published over 50 academic journals, has edited eight special issues in academic journals, has edited and contributed to multiple book volumes, including a volume he co-edited himself ("Renewable Energy Communities and the Low Carbon Energy Transition in Europe", Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). He supervises multiple PhDs and postdoctoral researchers.
