European Conference on Politics and Gender (ECPG)

2022, University of Ljubljana

Important update: ECPG 2021 postponed to 2022

It is with regret that the organisers of the European Conference on Politics and Gender (ECPG) – the colleagues from the University of Ljubljana and the Steering Committee of our Standing Group on Gender and Politics – have made the decision, in an emergency meeting, to postpone the ECPG for one year. The next ECPG will therefore take place in 2022 at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the associated uncertainty, the organisers feel it would not be feasible to deliver the ECPG 2021 in the way it was envisaged: a wonderful, inspiring and relaxed space to meet, exchange and have fun together. Instead, it's expected that – even if vaccination would be partly available by the initial conference date of 7–9 July 2021 – a physical conference would likely still come with many restrictions and thus fail to fulfil our hopes and expectations.

We are fortunate that the local organising team of Aleksandra Kanjuo-Mrcela, Roman Kuhar, and Jasna Mikic confirmed that the postponed ECPG will be hosted at the University of Ljubljana, in 2022.

In the meantime, the submission portal will now close and reopen next year with a renewed call for Panels and Papers.

We are all aware that the postponement of the ECPG comes with many challenges to be solved over the coming weeks and months, given that the conference will now deviate from the established biennial cycle. We are also aware that many of you already mobilised to compile panels, roundtables and other ideas for the next ECPG. Rest assured, these will not be lost – just merely stretched over a longer period of time. Thus, we sincerely hope for your understanding and a joint effort of the gender and politics community to create a wonderful 2022 edition of the ECPG.

As for 2021, the organisers are now looking into alternative options for virtual events that might be still possible to arrange. Please monitor our website, social media and email communications for further updates regarding this.
