The call for applications has now closed.

Join the Summer School of the Standing Group on International Relations, taking place 12 – 15 July as a hybrid event at the Blanquerna School of Communications and International Relations at Ramon Llull University, Barcelona and online.

Organised by our Standing Group on International Relations, the Summer School focuses on challenges and opportunities in a post-pandemic world.

Apply for the chance to get connected to an international forum of researchers and build an academic network with fellow early career and advanced scholars!

About the Summer School

Recent developments increasingly provide institutions with networks of governance that can either be seen as an erosion of traditional powers or as a chance to boost international cooperation and human potential to govern hazards.

Through a variety of sessions taught by renowned IR scholars, you will learn about research on the politics of governance, narratives and security.

  • Four defined sections delivered on distinct teaching days
  • Three 40-minute daily lectures from experts in the field
  • Fruitful discussion and debates with fellow participants
  • Daily afternoon sessions for student presentations

The following four sections will address the Summer School topics from an array of IR perspectives and fields of studies to exhaustively debate the challenges and opportunities in a post pandemic world:

  • Reimagining International Relations
  • Practices, Narratives and Ideas in International Relations
  • International Relations and (in)Securities
  • Global Governance into the Future

Applications

Please note the call for applications has now closed.

The Summer School is open to all students who are enrolled in a PhD programme and have completed a BA course in political sciences, international relations or related fields.

The event is set to take place predominately in person; however, a small number of students will be allowed to take part online.

Each of the twelve speakers will each select three students, according to their area of expertise, to write and submit a research Paper (6,000-8,000 words) to be discussed. The Paper will be presented during the Summer School, providing a unique platform for discussion and feedback from senior scholars and fellow participants.

The Summer School will be delivered in English; you will therefore be expected to have a good command of written and spoken English.

To make the Summer School as inclusive as possible, the Standing Group on International Relations have made the decision that successful applicants will not need to pay any participation fees – regardless of whether you will be attending in person or online.

Funding will not be provided for the travel and accommodation costs for students attending the Summer School in person; therefore, you will be required to organise this independently.

To apply, you must submit the following here, by Wednesday 20 April:

  • Your CV and a recommendation letter from your supervisor, uploaded in one single PDF and in English;
  • Abstract of a proposed scientific Paper to be presented during the Summer School (max 500 words).

Partial or incomplete applications will not be processed. Late applications will not be accepted.

You will be informed about the outcome of your application by email in early May.
