This House Series roundtable examines the outcomes of the 2023 parliamentary and presidential elections in Turkey, which have been identified as the pivotal elections of the year, in the context of the country's transformational journey over the last decade.

The roundtable

Turkey, which has often been articulated as a compelling case study of democratic decline in the world, has gone through substantial changes in the years preceding the 2023 elections, such as the introduction of the presidential system, a transition into an immigration country, and a sharp economic downturn, to name a few.

The discussions in this roundtable will delve into the multifaceted factors driving the surge of Turkish nationalism in the context of refugee movements in the country, political Islam, the Kurdish question, changing ideological divides and fault lines, and the future of women and minority rights in Turkey.

FREE to attend and open to all, the roundtable will shed light on the potential regional and international implications of these transformations and offer fresh perspectives to capturing these changes more effectively.
