There are no direct flights into Salamanca; the nearest airport is Madrid. International flights into Madrid’s Barajas airport arrive in Terminals 1 and 4. You can find useful information on Barajas airport (and others) on the Spanish Airport Services and Air Navigation website (‘Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea’ or ‘AENA’ (Select ‘Madrid Barajas’ from ‘Choose an Airport’, then ‘Practical Information’: here you will find information about the airport transit bus, luggage, and transportation to Madrid.
There is a bus service that runs directly from the airport. These buses run by the company Avanzabus, leave from Terminal 1 (T1). If your plane lands at Terminal 4 (T4) you can get to T1 by taking the shuttle bus (‘bus tránsito’ or ‘bus lanzadero’). The route of the shuttle bus can be found in the ‘practical information’ section of AENA’s website .
Upon arrival in T1, you can purchase your bus ticket at the travel agency ‘El Corte Inglés’ which is situated on the 2nd floor in English of T1, across from the international check-in area. For exact location click on the following link.

The ‘Tren de cercanías’ (local train) leaves from Terminal 4 (T4) of the airport, and goes to the city centre via either the Chamartín train station or ‘Méndez Álvaro’ bus station (Estación Sur de Autobuses). Take train number C-1 into either the Chamartín train station (duration 11 minutes) or the ‘Méndez Álvaro’ bus station (Estación Sur de Autobuses) (duration 29 minutes).
Note, if your flight arrives at Terminal 1 you will have to get the ‘lanzadera’ (shuttle bus) to T4 to take this train. For more information please see the following websites for train and bus information.
Bus. The bus to Salamanca departs from the ‘Méndez Álvaro’ bus station (Estación Sur de Autobuses) and is operated by the company Avanzabús. Two types of tickets are available for the journey: local (3.5 hours) or express (2.5 hours). For a bus timetable and prices please see the Avanzabús website. It is possible to buy either a ‘billete de ida’ (one way ticket), ‘billete de vuelta abierta’ (the date of the return trip is open ended) or a ‘billete de ida y vuelta’ (‘round trip’, if you already know the date of your return trip to Madrid).
Train. The train to Salamanca departs from Chamartín station and is operated by the RENFE (National train company), for timetables and prices please see the website.
At Chamartín train station go to the tickets window that says ‘Regionales’ then to the ticket window for same-day tickets; alternatively you can buy your ticket at a machine. The train has two stops in Salamanca: ‘Salamanca’ (the first and main stop) and ‘Salamanca-Alamedilla’. You can get off the train at either one, but the ‘Salamanca-Alamedilla’ stop does not have a taxi stand. You cannot board the train in Salamanca-Alamedilla; this stop is only for getting off.
There are a number of ticket options: ‘billete de ida’ (one way ticket); ‘billete de vuelta abierta’ (the date of the return trip is open ended, which is open for 15 days on the train); ‘billete de ida y vuelta’ (‘round trip’, if you already know the date of your return trip to Madrid and it is within 15 days).The journey takes 2 hours 40 minutes.
From the Salamanca bus station to the Facultad de Derecho (the location of registration, the book exhibition and Workshops) takes around five minutes to walk. Directions: Leave the bus station through the main exit and then turn right onto Avenida de Filiberto Villalobos. Walk to the next street, Calle de la Alberca, and turn right again. The Facultad de Derecho will be on your right in a little over a block.
From the Salamanca bus station to the Plaza Mayor (main city square) takes around 20 minutes to walk. Directions: Leave the bus station through the main exit and then turn right onto Avenida de Filiberto Villalobos. Continue for about 600 metres, until you reach a big avenue (Paseo de San Vicente). Cross the Paseo de San Vicente and walk down Calle Ramón y Cajal to the Plaza de las Agustinas (you will have the Palacio de Monterrey on your left and the Iglesia de la Purísima on your right). The Plaza de las Agustinas dead-ends on Calle Compañía. Turn left on Calle Compañía and then immediately right on Calle Prior, which will bring you to the Plaza Mayor.
From the Salamanca train station (note: There are two train stops in Salamanca, get off the train in the first stop (‘Salamanca’), which is the main train station) to the Facultad de Derecho or to city centre, you can take the Public Bus, the journey time is around 20 minutes. Directions: Exit the Vialia train station through the main exit. The bus stop is right across the street (Paseo de la Estación). Take the number 7 bus to the Facultad de Derecho (€1,05) or the number 1 to the Gran Vía stop, which is approximately five minutes’ walking distance from the Plaza Mayor. There is also a taxi stop immediately outside the main exit of the train station. The train station is approximately 40 minutes’ walk from the Facultad de Derecho and 25 minutes from the city centre.
