Founded in 1364, the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Kraków is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. Re-established by King Władysław II Jagiełło in 1400, the University has been a cornerstone of European intellectual and cultural life for more than six centuries.
Throughout its history, UJ has nurtured generations of scholars, scientists, and public figures who have shaped Poland’s and Europe’s academic traditions. Among its most notable alumni are Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who revolutionised our understanding of the universe, and Karol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II. The University’s enduring legacy combines a profound respect for tradition with a forward-looking commitment to research and innovation.
Today, Jagiellonian University comprises sixteen faculties, offering over 270 degree programmes to nearly 40,000 students. Its campuses blend the historic architecture of Kraków’s Old Town with modern research facilities at the new Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Revival. UJ maintains an active international outlook, fostering cooperation with universities and research centres worldwide, and welcoming a growing number of international students and scholars each year.
The Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of International and Political Studies will host this year’s conference. This division of the University is renowned for its vibrant, international body of students, faculty, and its far-reaching commitment to participation in national and transnational educational networks. It combines rich academic traditions with state-of-the art research and teaching methods.
The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in political science, international relations, security studies, cultural studies, and a full spectrum of regional studies programmes dedicated to every region of the world. Located in a recently renovated set of buildings close to the heart of Krakow, its 17 research units are home to over 3,000 Polish and international students. Programmes are conducted in both Polish and English.
With over 240 academic staff, research and teaching fellows, the Faculty is focused on delivering innovative education programmes, conducting world-leading research, and influencing public opinion with reliable research results in an increasingly cluttered informational landscape. Many of our teaching staff have served in high-ranking positions in Poland’s government and diplomatic corps, delivering not just theory, but also practical insight to our students.
The Faculty’s experts are frequently in demand to provide commentary and explanation on the Polish and international Media. The Faculty's academic staff collaborate closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other public institutions, preparing analytical reports and holding high-profile events for academics and policymakers.
