Abstract

The study of international aid and cooperation embraces a range of questions. What are the incentives which govern the interaction between sovereign nation-states and international organizations, including with respect to foreign aid? How does foreign aid influence the domestic politics of recipient states? How do states choose to allocate aid to different recipients, and choose between different types of aid? This panel brings together several papers that use new data and techniques to revisit old debates: on vote buying in the UN, the politics of bilateral and multilateral aid, and the behavior of nation-states in international bodies like the European Council.
