Abstract

The influence of radical right actors depends on the responses of other parties, media actors and civil society. In recent years, many societies have seen the increased mainstreaming of far-right positions. The papers in this panel analyse various underlying processes: the legitimization of radical right parties by mainstream parties, the mainstreaming of radical right claims through media coverage, the radicalization of mainstream parties, and institutional responses at the European level. Together they underline that dealing with the radical right will remain a complex challenge.
