Abstract

For a long time, ‘charismatic’ parties with a strong centralization of power were considered key for the success of the populist radical right. In recent years, the validity of this ‘magic formula’ has been increasingly called into question. The papers in this panel examine new trends in the organization of far-right parties, such as the mobilization of female party members, practices of intra-party democracy, and institutional learning from the failure of far-right predecessors. Together, they open the ‘black box’ of radical right party organizations and approach the question of whether these parties are here to stay.
