Abstract

The Covid Pandemic has served as a magnifying glass for entrenched social inequalities. This has sparked new debates on the very meaning of social equality, welfare, political participation, and the right to the city. By zooming into self-help initiatives in Syria, appropriations and resignifcations of urban space by anti-vax protesters in cities of the Global North, re-sparked debates on the very meaning of welfare in Sweden, and housing activism in Brazil and Portugal, this panel shows that the pandemic has not only magnified social inequality, but – more actively – mobilizing and adressing existing social inqualities.
