Abstract

This panel investigates the multifaceted intersections of gender and intersectionality within the realms of EU diplomacy, foreign affairs, and development policy. Case studies range from EP relations with NATO and ACP countries, to norm change in women's rights through human rights diplomacy, and a critical examination of mainstreaming efforts on gender and climate within EU development policy. The panel also sheds light on gendered interpretations in EU27-UK parliamentary diplomacy and challenges heteronormativity and binaries in the EU's approach to Women, Peace, and Security. Additionally, it delves into the negotiations of EU accession to the Istanbul Convention, questioning the impact of populist governments on the conventional dynamics of EU politics.
