Abstract

Advances in computational methods and the increasing availability of voluminous textual data documenting the activities of international organizations (IOs) have transformed research on IOs. These two trends now allow the analyses of hitherto-unobservable phenomena and dynamics within these institutions. This panel brings together contributions that showcase the latest applications of text-as-data techniques to infer meaningful social-scientific concepts from textual data—such as speeches, reports, or social media posts. It will thus provide a venue for IO and political science scholars to explore the potential and pitfalls of this rapidly advancing methodology.
